Children's Ministry

Sunday Morning
9:40am – 10:40am

Central Presbyterian Church welcomes all children 4 years old through 6th grade to join us for Sunday school.  Central uses the Workshop Rotation Model for children’s Sunday morning education.  The Workshop Rotation Model uses the multiple intelligences to provide children with all possible avenues to help learn in the best environment for them.

Our elementary-age classrooms have been designed to be creative, media-inspired, child-pleasing classrooms that help teach stories of the Bible.  Some of the workshops that take place in these rooms include: art, drama, Bible games, cooking and video.

Classes rotate to a new workshop each week for four to six weeks.  The teachers do not rotate.  They stay put in the workshop, repeating the lesson to a new group of children each week (with some age-appropriate modifications).

During the four to six week period, only one Bible story is taught.  The entire rotation – every workshop, every week – is focused on learning that one Bible story.

At the end of each rotation, we have Celebration Sunday.  Class time on this Sunday brings all the children together to review what they have learned.  This is done through storytelling, drama, art projects and game shows.  On many of the Celebration Sunday’s, the children will also share part of what they have learned in worship.

Children find this a fun and exciting way to learn about the Bible.  Almost every week, they can’t wait to come back to see what the next workshop has in store.

Below are the rotation schedules for the year.  The first grid listed is the current rotation.  Following each grid, you will find a description of each rotation and its workshops.  You will also find sign-up opportunities if we are still in need of teachers for the workshops.  Sign-up may be done on the website.

Mar 23 Celebration Sunday
PreK/K through 6th Grade: all classes meet for celebration

While the children are very familiar with the Easter story, there are many details they might not know.  We will take this opportunity to look at the women who came to the tomb that wonderful morning.

ART: After hearing the story, the children will create a sculpture related to the resurrection story.
VIDEO: Through a couple of movies, the children will learn about the women’s reactions to the news.
COMPUTER: Using the computers, the children will create a “front page” account of the story.
DRAMA: In this class, the children will read, hear and compare the resurrection accounts from each Gospel.  They will then come up with a way to tell others about the events of Easter morning.
BIBLE GAMES: Following a discussion about the women witnessing the resurrection, the children will play a game related to the events of the first Easter morning.
